5th Grade Science
Students will investigate the processess that led to the formation of sedimentary rocks and fossil fuels. Students will review how landforms such as deltas, canyons, and sand dunes are the result of changes to Earth's surface (Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition) by wind, water, and ice.
Students will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday over the following words. They may practice the words on my quizlet at the link below.
Sedimentary Rock-a type of rock formed when layers of sediment are pressed together and harden over time
Igneous Rock- a rock that forms when magma or lava cools and hardens
Metamorphic Rock- a rock that has been changed by heat or pressure into another kind of rock
Rock Cycle- the slow continuous process by which rocks change from one type to another
Magma-liquid, molten rock beneath Earth's surface
Fossil-the remains or traces of a plant or an animal that lived long ago
Cast-a model of an organism, formed when sediment fills a mold and hardens
