Students will explore the uses of energy, including mechanical, light, thermal, electrical, and sound using stemscopes this week.
Students will have a short test over Force & Motion on Wednesday. The following is their study guide. Newton- Unit of measurement for force Repeating an experiment increases the reliability of the experiment’s results. Gravity-the force of attraction between objects, such as the attraction between Earth and objects on it Balanced forces- forces that cancel each other out because they are equal in strength and opposite in direction Unbalance forces-forces that cause a change in an object’s motion because they don’t cancel each other out Friction- a force that acts between two touching objects and that opposes motion, slows motion Force-a push or a pull, which may cause a change in an object’s motion Students will begin working with the following vocabulary words this week. They may also practice on quizlet. quizlet.com/_3vlxgo The quiz will likely be next week. Conductor - a substance that allows electricity to travel through it Insulator - a substance that does not allow electricity to travel through it Circuit - an electrical device that allows electricity to flow through Current - the flow of electricity Light - a form of energy that travels in waves and a straight line that can move through empty space Sound - a form of energy created by vibrations Reflection - the bouncing back of light waves Refraction - the bending of light through a substance Opaque - not allowing light to pass through Translucent - allows only some light to pass through Transparent - allows light to pass through If you have not signed up for a conference with your homeroom teacher, please do so.
