5th Grade Science
We will begin our unit of force, motion, and energy. Students will learn that energy occurs in many forms and will study the effect of forces on objects. Students will explore the uses of energy, including mechanical, light, thermal, electrical, and sound. Students will learn about circuits and light.
Students may study their vocabulary words for Friday's quiz at the following link. quizlet.com/_3ubgmr Force - a push or pull that can change the position or motion of an object Motion - a change in the position of an object Gravity - the force that pulls objects toward each other Friction - a force that works against motion Push - the act of applying force in order to move something away Pull - the act of applying force to move something toward or with you Balanced Forces - forces that cancel each other out because they are equal in size and opposite in directions Unbalanced Forces - forces that cause a change in an object's motion because they don't cancel each other out Potential Energy - energy that an object has because of its position or its condition Kinetic Energy - energy that an object has because of motion Students will receive their graded Unit 2 Matter tests tomorrow. They will have an opportunity to make corrections to increase their grade up to a 70 if they received a 65 or below. Students will write corrections (the entire question and the entire correct answer--not just the letter) on a sheet of notebook paper and staple it to the original test and turn it in.
